Indian Judiciary - Interesting view

Fact: Two Sisters Renuka and Seema Gavit (Kolhapur Sisters) gets death penalty for killing six children.

Present day scenario:

The Bombay high court (HC) on Tuesday commuted their death sentence to life imprisonment — they will remain lodged at Pune’s Yerwada jail for the rest of their natural lives — on account of the state’s delay in seeking a decision on their mercy petitions after the Supreme Court rejected their appeal in 2006. The mercy pleas were presented in 2014.

Food for thought:

1. Will other cases where death penalty is hanging due to multiple reasons will be commuted due to similar reasons.

2. If death is a rarest of rare case then why there should be discussion of commuting it.

3. So can anyone clarify whether justice was served in this case?

4. Can legal system guarantee that they will be in prison for rest of their lives or even that will be commuted and they will be released because of good conduct / old age?

5. Who is the lawyer of the Gavit sisters and who gave them this advise of approaching High Court and get a verdict like this?
