Audit of Open / Reserved Category (India)

An accidental visit to Government Medical College, Pallakad (India) website and analysis of list of students who got admission caught my attention.

IIMS Palakkad started intake of students since 2014-15. Analysis of data of students with regards to whether they were Open or Reserved, a very interesting observation was noticed.

It is surprising to observe that open category average stands at 5% for five years (2014-15 to 2018-19) ranging from 0% to 9%. 

Was the ratio of open to reserved category was accidental or not is left for the reader to interpret.

There is absence of data with respect to how many students appeared in each of the categories and how many were selected (percentage wise) from them. 

Hence, in India, 10% reservation for economically backward caste in general category is understandable.
